2025 Design Predictions

2025 Interior Design Predictions

Happy New Year everyone! As we step into 2025, the interior design landscape is set to evolve with color and texture at the forefront. I’m looking forward to seeing some exciting trends that will transform our spaces into vibrant and comforting environments. Here is a list of what I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of this year in residential design:

Limewash Finishes

Limewash has seen a resurgence in popularity, and 2025 is poised to fully embrace this timeless technique. Known for its breathable quality and unique texture, limewash adds a soft, matte finish to walls that exudes character. Whether applied to the interior of a home or used on exterior exteriors, limewash creates a stunning backdrop that enhances the overall aesthetic. The versatility of limewash allows for various color options, from soft pastels to deep, earthy tones, making it a favorite for folks looking to add warmth and depth.

Wallcovering Drenching

The last couple years we’ve seen a lot of “paint drenching” and “color drenching” in residential spaces. In 2025, I predict wallcovering drenching will take center stage as a bold design choice where even the ceiling gets covered. This trend involves enveloping an entire room in a singular pattern or texture using wallcoverings, transforming it into a cohesive and immersive space. People can play with oversized prints and statement graphics that create a sense of drama and richness. From florals to abstract designs, wallcovering drenching will allow for personal expression and will invite guests into an environment that feels intentional and curated. This bold move breaks away from the traditional accent wall, encouraging a more adventurous approach to decor.

Deep Chocolate Brown Colors

Rich, deep chocolate browns are set to make a significant impact in 2025 (Just look at all the “2025 colors of the year” lists). This color evokes a sense of comfort and sophistication, making it perfect for various spaces within a home. Whether it’s used as an accent, in furniture, or on walls, deep chocolate brown creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Pair it with lighter hues for contrast, or mix it with warm woods and plush textiles to achieve a balanced, layered look. As we move away from cooler grays and whites, this warming hue will resonate with those looking to create a more earthy and grounded environment.

Rustic/Western Design

The rustic and western design aesthetic continues to gain traction as we embrace a blend of traditional and modern elements. In 2025, expect to see reclaimed materials, natural fibers, and artisanal craftsmanship take center stage. This style honors the beauty of nature, bringing in elements like weathered wood, wrought iron, and leather. Textured fabrics and earthy color palettes will complement this trend, creating spaces that feel welcoming and lived in. The fusion of rustic charm with contemporary touches allows for a versatile design that is both functional and stylish.

Strategic Lighting

Lighting is often seen merely as a functional element, but thanks in part to Gen Z and social media (just search “big light” on TikTok and you’ll see what I’m talking about) in 2025 there will be a lot more awareness on how lighting can be strategically used to enhance design features and create mood. I predict there will be a huge focus on layering lighting through the use of ambient, task, and accent lighting to highlight architectural details and curated decor. Statement pendants and sculptural fixtures will serve as focal points, while dimmers and smart home technology will allow for customizable lighting experiences. This trend emphasizes the importance of lighting as a key element in setting the tone and emphasizing the beauty of a well-designed space. And if you’ve ever had a paint color consultation with Becca or myself, I’m sure you’ve heard us say just how important lighting is in a space.

I’m looking forward to what 2025 will bring and curious to see how my predictions hold up!
